Summary
A Pueblo teen moves in with a non-Native family in order to attend high school in Albuquerque, and takes care of its small boys for their often absent mother. Martha Weekoty realizes that though aboriginal-heritage children are not blessed with material riches, they do receive an abundance of emotional nurturing. Martha also comes to see, however, that respect for the traditional ways sometimes hampers positive progress. In the end, she is torn between a marriage proposal and her desire for a college education.
